A Guide to Different Dart Games and Their Rules

By Customer Service May 19, 2023 0 comments

Darts is a versatile game that offers a wide range of variations and game modes to suit different playing styles and preferences. Whether you're a casual player looking for some fun or a serious competitor seeking a challenge, understanding the rules of various dart games is essential. In this article, we will explore some popular dart games and provide a comprehensive guide to their rules.

  1. 501/301/101

501, 301, and 101 are the most common dart games played in both casual and professional settings. The objective of these games is to reach zero from a starting score, typically 501, 301, or 101, by subtracting the score achieved with each throw. Players take turns throwing three darts per round, aiming to hit the numbered sections on the dartboard. The scoring is based on the numerical value of the hit sections, with doubles and triples offering double and triple the respective value. The game ends when a player reaches exactly zero or the lowest score possible without going below zero, such as 1 or 2, depending on the rules agreed upon.

  1. Cricket

Cricket is a strategic and widely popular dart game played with a larger number of players, usually two teams. The objective is to "close" or score points on specific numbers on the dartboard, namely 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, and the bullseye. To close a number, a player must hit it three times. Once a number is closed, subsequent hits on that number by the opposing player(s) do not count. The game continues until all players have closed all numbers, and the team or player with the highest total points wins.

  1. Around the Clock

Around the Clock is a game that tests accuracy and endurance. Players take turns throwing one dart at a time and aim to hit each number on the dartboard in ascending order, starting from 1 and moving clockwise. Once a player successfully hits a number, they move on to the next. The game continues until a player hits the bullseye, completing the circuit, or until a predetermined number of rounds has been played. The winner is the player who completes the circuit in the fewest rounds.

  1. Shanghai

Shanghai is an exciting and fast-paced dart game that focuses on a single number. Each round, players take turns throwing three darts and aim to score points on a specific number, such as 20, 19, etc. The objective is to score as many points as possible on the designated number within that round. Points can be earned by hitting singles, doubles, triples, or the bullseye. However, the game gets its name from the "Shanghai" rule, where a player wins the round instantly by hitting a single, double, and triple of the designated number in any order.

  1. Killer

Killer is a competitive game for a group of players that tests accuracy and strategic thinking. Each player starts with a predetermined number of lives (usually three). The objective is to eliminate other players by hitting their numbers on the dartboard while protecting your own. Players take turns throwing one dart at a time, aiming to hit the numbers of their opponents. Each hit on an opponent's number deducts a life from that player. The last player standing with lives remaining wins the game.

These are just a few examples of the many dart games available to players. Each game offers its own unique set of rules, challenges, and strategies. Exploring different dart games can add variety and excitement to your dart-playing experience, whether you're enjoying a friendly game with friends or competing in a tournament. So grab your darts, practice your aim, and dive into the world of dart games!
